Leaving a career in Restaurant Management , Greg started in 1986 taking on small carpentry jobs. While spending his summers as a boy working for his father at a Residential Theatre, he developed a love for building which he carried with him. " I was lucky to be exposed to building sceneries...every two weeks I learned a different setting, from Victorian to the abstract..."
As his talents grew, he began taking on larger projects. He has accomplished many large additions in Maryland and Washington DC as well as built homes, including a 5000 sq. ft. Colonial in Boyds, Maryland. His projects also include buying and rehabbing homes in Baltimore on Federal Hill and Canton.
From 1994 to 2000 he worked as a Cabinet Maker, learning the trade from the ground up. His body of work can be seen in numerous hospitals, embassies , offices and homes throughout the Washington DC area. "My mentor taught me that if you can imagine it, you can build it."
In 2000, Greg joined a friend in a partnership and completed the build out of a kitchen showroom in Potomac Mills. Two years later he founded Birch Associates LLC and continued with European Cabinetry design. Within a 6 year span, the company grew to 22 employees, completing over 2000 kitchens and bathrooms. During this time Greg continued to take on larger projects including a Homeland Security office in Washington DC and remodeling condominiums at the Watergate and other prominent locations.
Today, Greg focuses on individual projects. Although he enjoyed his tenure running a larger enterprise, he is back practicing his trade, one project at a time." With a larger company you are forced to specialize in one activity in order to maintain proper training and quality. I am able to work on a wider range of projects from additions to custom cabinetry because I do the work.I enjoy the freedom of losing myself in the craft. It enables me to give the client the attention their project deserves. It cost more, but long after you forget the financial bite, you appreciate the personal attention and lasting quality."
Greg resides in Maryland with his wife Saranya and their 4 children.
